Team Juno Day has been busy lately, but I'd like to get this thing going in earnest this month. To start things off, here's a batch of songs that I had initially written (with some valuable contributions from Zac) as a Christmas gift for my family back in December '10. This was the original In Double Rainbows album (before we decided to "release" those primordial Juno Day 2.0 jam sessions as I.D.R. back in February); the project was scrapped, though, after it didn't get done in time for a Christmas gift, and we decided that it wasn't "good enough" anyway.
It's still not "good enough," but I'm far more interested in starting a pattern of shipping rather than accumulating a mass of GarageBand demos that never leave my own bedroom/laptop...now they can at least be GarageBand demos that you can listen to, and we'll improve from there.
What you hear below was recorded yesterday, on June 1. It's a collection of mostly first-takes, and a few 2nd or 3rd takes. It's rife with flubs and imperfections of every sort. The songs themselves, as they are written, are almost entirely the result of a very concentrated effort over the span of a few weeks in December '10 and January '11 (all songs being written by January 17). This was right before, during, and after my decision to quit my job at a marketing agency and, by default of having no back-up plan, leave New York; the songs more or less represent these final two months in NYC. For what it's worth, the album provides a good summary of where my head was at during this time.
